Inspired by Winter Challenge &
a Give~away!

“...the winter is kind and leaves red berries
on the boughs for hungry sparrows...”
~ John Geddes, A Familiar Rain

Winter Berries, necklace

Sally Russick of The Studio Sublime threw down a challenge in January because "winter was slowly seeping into her veins and sucking the creativity right out".
Her challenge:
To create a beautiful piece of jewelry inspired by winter.

Since winter in Massachusetts is cold and grey I knew my piece would be made from steel wire with a pop of color.  I've hand formed the wire, then wrapped, hammered, brush finished and waxed it to create winter twigs. Recycled red glass berries are "snow-capped" with silver plated bead caps.

Here in the Northeast we're behind on snow fall, but we've been told that we've got a doozy of a snow storm headed our way. I'm actually a little bit excited! Time to make homemade soup, bake something yummy and tuck in for this fabulous blog hop!

I hope you'll join me in visiting the participants of

Winterberries - it's a pattern on my Pfaltzgraf Christmas dinnerware that haul out of my basement every single year - that is what your necklace reminds me of. This is so very, very beautiful! I love your wire wrapping on this piece, and those red beads just POP against the steel! Beautiful...just beautiful!

My first thought was winter berries when I saw the necklace. It's gorgeous! I am so amazed that you did all the wire work -- stunning. Count me in for the earrings. They are gorgeous as well.

The spare, simplicity of your necklace and earrings really elicit the bare branches and brilliant berries of Winter flora. They really are lovely.

Thank you for the chance to win your Winter berry earrings! (I now follow your blog using GFC)

Your designs remind me of the hawthorn tree outside my studio window. Last fall there were several of the red berries on the bush as the leaves fell there was one berry hanging off a branch. It weathered storms, frost, ice, snow and freezing rain. But it was so pretty against all of these changes. The pop of red in your design reminds me of that berry amongst the branches.
